After ten years of going from strength to strength, Bowerbird Design Market is being presented for sale. Founder and director, Jane Barwick is exploring the options of finding the next custodian(s) for Bowerbird; a strong brand and event platform that has excellent resonance within the Australian design community and for the Adelaide population at large.
Over the past decade, Bowerbird has become a significant design event on the South Australian and Australian calendar held over three days at the Adelaide Showground. Bowerbird currently showcases over 200 Australian designers and makers twice a year, exhibiting furniture and lighting, clothing and textiles, accessories, ceramics, homewares, stationery and artworks, with visitors exceeding 12,000 at each event. Workshops, insitu rooms, music and hand-crafted food and beverage offerings round out the market experience. Barwick is proud of the format she has developed along with a talented collection of Adelaide creatives;

The market contributes to South Australia’s reputation through its curatorial commitment to select work that is contemporary and innovative and provides a launchpad for exposure and support for designers. Barwick acknowledges the successes the event has achieved and also sees options for further growth.
“Further potential growth for the business could be explored via regional or interstate touring, the development of niche executions outside of core market times, brand partnerships and activations and perhaps even developing a digital retail space. But this is for any successful buyers to explore, I will watch with keen interest to see how and where the brand evolves. “
For now, with the business listed, Jane and the Bowerbird team will focus on the November event, the 22nd edition of this Adelaide institution. They will welcome over 200 stallholders including 40 exciting new businesses who are eager to meet the Adelaide design-loving community (bowerbird.net.au).
